Press Release Body =
Bangalore., March 1, 2006: MagmaŽ Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider
of semiconductor design software, today announced the availability of an advanced
low-power IC implementation reference flow for the 90-nanometer low-power process
offered through the IBM-Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Common Platform. The
Magma flow, featuring Blast PowerT, Blast FusionŽ, Blast CreateT and Blast RailT NX,
addresses the three major concerns of power management: dynamic power, leakage power
and power distribution. It has been qualified using real-world designs and
libraries.
Blast Power optimizes dynamic power by using the flexibility of voltage islands to
selectively shut down different regions of a chip, it minimizes leakage power with
libraries that automatically select the best cells to satisfy leakage power
requirements, and it enables optimal power distribution through automatic power grid
synthesis.
The low-power reference flow guides designers through an RTL-to-GDSII methodology
enabling fast, optimal timing-versus-power and area-versus-power tradeoffs at
different stages of the implementation flow. With the ability to address power
considerations during implementation and within a single environment, designers can
minimize the power consumption of the design and reduce turnaround time. In
addition, manufacturability is now addressed in the place-and-route tech files.
The low-power reference flow is part of Magma's design enablement kit for the
IBM-Chartered Common Platform, which also includes a test design that exercises all
the low-power features, including automatic level shifter insertion. The
RTL-to-GDSII script and methodology guide comprise the rest of the kit, which is
qualified by IBM and Chartered and available now through Magma at
http://www.magma-da.com/lowpowerflow.
"The continued momentum behind the IBM-Chartered Common Platform by key design
enablement partners such as Magma will help further accelerate the transition to
90nm and beyond for our mutual customers," said Kevin Meyer, vice president of
worldwide marketing and platform alliances at Chartered. "With these
production-proven flows, designers have a low-risk approach to getting from concept
to silicon and have the flexibility to work with two of the leading manufacturers,
minimizing any re-design required to move between them."
"Magma provides a design solution optimized for power reduction and power management
that is well-suited to support our low-power process technology," said Steve
Longoria, vice president, Semiconductor Common Platform for IBM Systems & Technology
Group. "We are pleased to extend this successful relationship which expands the
Common Platform ecosystem at 90 nm, enabling clients to maximize the benefits of
leading-edge technology and choice."
\"We are excited to be able to help extend the benefits of this common platform for
customers through our advanced low-power flow, which is optimized for the
IBM/Chartered design process," said Michael Ma, vice president of foundry and IP
relationships at Magma. "Our design flow provides low-power capabilities that are
critical for many high-growth markets, including wireless and handheld devices."
